Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi – Sheldrick Wildlife Trust – Nairobi National Park – Nairobi

Your Nairobi National Park day trip awaits – Your safari guide will meet you in the morning, at your hotel in Nairobi, for the start of your adventure. You will have the chance to spot the famous Big 5 today: elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, and rhino – without even leaving Kenya’s capital. Your first stop is the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, near the entrance of the Nairobi National Park. You will arrive in time to watch as the charming and not-so-little elephant orphans are fed their very own special milk formula. Having spent some time observing the elephants and learning about the conservation and wildlife protection efforts performed by the Trust, you move onwards to the Nairobi National Park. The park is the oldest national park in Kenya and Nairobi’s greatest treasure. Perfect for a day trip! You will be amazed by the variety of wildlife that calls the park home and experience a unique safari with Nairobi’s skyline as your backdrop. The park is much bigger than you may expect, about the same size as the city of Liverpool. Absorb the serenity around you and let your eyes wander across the open savannah. Your guide knows the park and its natural inhabitants inside-out and his experience will help you find animals which might otherwise have gone unnoticed. As you have already seen the elephant, you now have the opportunity to spot the remaining members of the Big Five on this Nairobi National Park day trip: lion, buffalo, leopard, and rhino. You can also observe giraffes, hyenas, zebras and more. The park serves as an important rhino sanctuary and your chances of spotting rhinos in their natural environment is very high on this safari. You will enjoy lunch at one of the shaded picnic sites, from where you have the opportunity to stretch your legs a little by walking along the Hippo Pools nature trail and come to see some of the park’s birdlife and smaller creatures up close. As the shadows begin to grow longer and sun begins to set, you exit the park and your guide will return you to your hotel in Nairobi with a new appreciation for Kenya’s capital city. Your Nairobi National Park day trip has come to an end.Lunch

  • In general, East Africa poses no higher health risks than many other destinations. Please consult your GP or a tropical disease institute regarding appropriate vaccinations etc. before your departure. For your own safety please inform us about any intolerances or allergies you may have against any medications or of any medical conditions (e.g. high blood pressure, epilepsy, asthma, heart conditions, etc.) when you book your trip. Please also inform your guide before the start of the tour.
  • In theory, there is a possibility of contracting malaria in all East African countries. Malaria is caused by one-cell parasites and transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes. Different medications can offer a prophylaxis but some need to be taken before you start travelling. You should consult your GP or the institute for tropical diseases to get medical advice. Our experience suggests that medications which have been on the market for some time (e.g. Lariam) can lead to severe side effects and therefore may compromise your trip.
  • Prevention is always better than cure; the best prevention is not to get bitten by wearing long trousers, socks, closed shoes and long-sleeved tops during the evening hours. The use of anti-mosquito sprays and creams can further help to reduce the risk of being bitten.
