Itinerary
Day 1 Nairobi – Sheldrick Wildlife Trust – Giraffe Centre – Karen Blixen Museum – Nairobi
After the city’s morning rush has settled, your driver will collect you from your hotel in Nairobi and your day trip can begin. First up, you head out to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. The Trust does an amazing job at caring and rehabilitating orphaned elephant calves and a visit is on top of the list for many Nairobi day trips. You will gain many interesting insights into the incredible work which the Trust does and witness these adorable young elephants happily being fed their very own special milk formula. Your following stop is not far, for you are visiting the Giraffe Centre next. Through your visit alone, you are already contributing to the conservation work the Centre carries out. Take some time to feed the giraffes and to connect with them. They are more interactive than you might think. All the feeding might have awoken your own appetite by now. So onwards to the Tamambo Karen Blixen Coffee Garden for lunch. If the weather is suited, sit outside, order something delicious to eat from the set menu and perhaps indulge in a cocktail from the bar. After your lunchbreak, you make your way to a beautiful, century old farmhouse. But not just any farmhouse, it is the former home of Karen Blixen and now houses the Karen Blixen Museum. Guided tours are offered on site and you can take your time exploring the home of one of Kenya’s most famous residents and allow yourself to be transported back in time. Following an interesting day, and as evening slowly begins to fall over Kenya’s capital, your driver will bring you back to your hotel in Nairobi. Your Nairobi day trip has come to an end.Lunch

- In general, East Africa poses no higher health risks than many other destinations. Please consult your GP or a tropical disease institute regarding appropriate vaccinations etc. before your departure. For your own safety please inform us about any intolerances or allergies you may have against any medications or of any medical conditions (e.g. high blood pressure, epilepsy, asthma, heart conditions, etc.) when you book your trip. Please also inform your guide before the start of the tour.
- In theory, there is a possibility of contracting malaria in all East African countries. Malaria is caused by one-cell parasites and transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes. Different medications can offer a prophylaxis but some need to be taken before you start travelling. You should consult your GP or the institute for tropical diseases to get medical advice. Our experience suggests that medications which have been on the market for some time (e.g. Lariam) can lead to severe side effects and therefore may compromise your trip.
- Prevention is always better than cure; the best prevention is not to get bitten by wearing long trousers, socks, closed shoes and long-sleeved tops during the evening hours. The use of anti-mosquito sprays and creams can further help to reduce the risk of being bitten.
