Private Trekking Tour

You’ll be driven to the start of the trek to meet your experienced mountain crew, who will take you to the top and safely back down again.

On this four-day trekking tour up Mt Kenya, you’ll enjoy beautiful landscapes and panoramic views along the Sirimon Route.

You hike through open heather and moorland before descending into the picturesque Mackinder’s Valley. Arriving at Shipton’s Base Camp, take in the stunning mountain panorama.

On day 3, a shorter but steeper ascent, passing Batian to your right, gets you to Point Lenana at 4895m, where the impressive views across Mt Kenya will open up below you.

You descend via the Chogoria Route with its gurgling streams and enchanting forest.

After your Mt Kenya climb, continue your wildlife safari or relax a few days on a tropical beach.

Day 1 | Nairobi (1800m) – Sirimon Park Gate (2660m) – Old Moses Camp (3300m)

Your transfer driver will meet you at your hotel in Nairobi. Once you have made it through the capital’s busy morning traffic, you will leave the city behind and drive past tea and rice farms towards Nanyuki.

After midday, you reach Sirimon Gate, where your trekking adventure begins. Hike along a good road through dense forest, which transforms into heather and moorland, dotted with Protea and other flowers. If you’re lucky, you can spot zebras and antelopes along the way.

About 3-4 hours into the climb, the route turns off right towards Old Moses Camp. At 3300 m, you can enjoy your first dinner and camping experience.

Day 2 | Old Moses Camp (3300m) – Shipton’s Camp (4200m)

Mornings on the mountain start early, and after a hearty breakfast, you leave camp to start the next leg of your climb.

After about an hour’s hike through the moorland, you reach the Ontulli River in the valley. From here, there is an uphill hike into the Liki North area. Once at the top, enjoy the views and take a quick break before descending into Mackinder’s Valley again.

It’s a gentle 7km hike through this picturesque valley, dotted with different species of giant lobelia and traversed by clear mountain streams. When the weather permits, you can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding mountain cliffs and peaks.

After a total day’s hike of 14km, your well-deserved rest awaits at Shipton’s Camp, tucked underneath the towering peaks of Mt Kenya.

You overnight on the campsite below the Shipton’s mountain hut and go to bed early to be fit and well-rested for the ascent to Point Lenana at night.

Day 3 | Shipton’s Camp (4200m) – Point Lenana (4985m) – Mintos Camp (4200m) – Meru Bandas (3000m)

After a short night’s sleep, you wake up around 1 am for tea, coffee, and light snacks. You’ve got a long and exciting day ahead of you.

You begin your ascent to the top at 2 am with your guide. It’s a steep hike through the cold night, passing Batian on your right before you reach Point Lenana at sunrise.

A spectacular panoramic view across the Mt Kenya massif rewards you for the strenuous ascent. You might even see Mt Kilimanjaro if the weather is clear.

It is time to descend to Mintos Camp on the Chogoria Route for a hearty breakfast. Take a rest and catch your breath before you continue to Meru Bandas at the Chogoria Gate.

After a total day’s hike of 17km, you will look forward to a tasty dinner and a good night’s sleep.

Enjoy a last breakfast on the mountain before you head back down through the dense bamboo forest, the memories of your summit success still fresh in your mind.

Look for hyena, buffalo, and leopard paw prints on the road. After a gentle hike, our transfer driver will pick you up at the meeting point, “Kilometre Kumi”, and take you to Nairobi.

You can stop for lunch along the way (optional) before returning to the capital in the afternoon.
