After a night by the picturesque Lake Naivasha, head to the Masai Mara National Reserve, home to one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in East Africa.

Nairobi – Tsavo West National Park

Distance approx. 280 km; driving time approx. 5 hours

We will meet you in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, where your classic Kenya safari begins. It is time to hit the road in your 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser and embark on your safari across Kenya.

Driving towards Tsavo West National Park, you will leave the hustle and bustle of the capital behind; within kilometres of leaving the city, nature takes charge and skyscrapers change into shrubs and open grassland.

You will arrive in Tsavo West in the afternoon, just in time for your first game drive. You’ll be surprised how many animals you can spot on only your first day! Tsavo West is one of the biggest national parks in Kenya and home to not only the Big Five but to more than 600 different bird species and the rare Hunter’s hartebeest.

You will spend your first night in the bush at the Severin Safari Camp.

Tsavo West National Park – Amboseli National Park

Distance approx. 130 km; driving time approx. 3 hours

Your first morning in the bush starts early. The unfenced Severin Safari Camp is located near the Mzima Springs, a natural fresh-water spring, which turns its surrounding dry landscape into an oasis, attracting many animals. There will be enough time for a game drive to explore this haven for wildlife before you head north to Amboseli National Park.

No day in the bush is the same, so you can look forward to seeing different landscapes and animals during your afternoon game drive in the iconic Amboseli at the border to Tanzania, known for its large elephant herds.

After another exciting day out and about on your classic Kenya safari, enjoy the hospitality of the Ol Tukai Lodge, your home for the next two nights.

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
The neck and head of a giraffe looking at the camera with snow on the peak of Mt Kilimanjaro - a highlight sighting on clear days on classic Kenya safaris.

Day 3 | Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park

It’s time for game drives! Today, you will further explore Amboseli National Park and enjoy a meet and greet with the local wildlife. Leave the rest of the world behind and fully immerse yourself in this magical setting.

Proud elephant herds march amongst acacia trees against the backdrop of Africa’s highest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro, while birds catch a ride on their back. A picture worth a thousand words, making it one of the most-loved parks in Kenya.

The wetlands and open grass savannah are home to lions, buffaloes, wildebeest, zebras and waterbucks. Together with your guide, you will not only find and observe the animals but learn about their behaviour and social structures. When the shadows grow longer, you will return to the Ol Tukai Lodge.

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
A cottage at Naivasha Sopa Lodge with waterbucks grazing in front of the cottage.

Day 4 | Amboseli National Park – Lake Naivasha

Distance approx. 300 km; driving time approx. 5 hours

Amboseli National Park – Lake Naivasha

Distance approx. 300 km; driving time approx. 5 hours

Enjoy views of the Amboseli wetlands and the majestic Kilimanjaro in the distance one more time this morning. Expect a change in scenery as you head north on your fourth day of your Kenya safari. Today’s destination is the tranquil Lake Naivasha, one of the few fresh-water lakes in the Great Rift Valley.

Naivasha is also known as the flower capital of Kenya, being home to many rose farms, the economic driver of the region. After plenty of wildlife adventures in the past days, it is time to slow down – you can spend the afternoon at your own leisure.

Book an optional boat trip on the lake to see hippos and the fascinating bird life, take a walk across the lodge’s grounds or simply stretch and relax by the pool. Take a few hours for yourself to reflect on your experiences and what is still to come. Your home for the night is the Naivasha Sopa Lodge.

Lake Naivasha – Masai Mara National Reserve

Distance approx. 225 km; driving time approx. 5-6 hours

After a relaxing day in Naivasha, another highlight of any classic Kenya safari awaits: today, you will make your way to the world-renowned Masai Mara. Nothing says classic Kenya safari quite like the Mara and for many locals and travellers it is a symbol of the East African wildlife experience.

It is best known as host to the “greatest show on earth”, the Great Migration of millions of wildebeest and zebras, following the rains in search of fresh green grass. But no matter what time of the year you visit the Mara, on today’s afternoon game drive, you can spot elegant giraffes, proud lions, the world’s fastest land animal, the cheetah, and many other species.

On the banks of the Talek River and surrounded by trees, your home for the next two nights is the Tipilikwani Mara Camp.

Day 6 | Masai Mara National Reserve

Masai Mara National Reserve

Waking up in the middle of nature must be one of the ingredients for a perfect morning. Another being the prospect of a full day of game drives around the Masai Mara Game Reserve. You’re in luck and can enjoy both today.

A full day in the Mara means you have enough time to explore different corners of the reserve including a stop at the Mara River. When the Great Migration passes through Kenya, the river is the site of dramatic spectacles as wildebeest and zebras plunge into the waters where hungry crocodiles await them.

Spend the day enjoying the small moments, which make every safari a unique experience and apply your newly acquired knowledge about the flora and fauna of Kenya. Return to the Tipilikwani Mara Camp for your last night in the bush.

Masai Mara Region – Nairobi

Distance approx. 280 km; driving time approx. 6-7 hours

After breakfast, you will leave the Masai Mara region heading back to the city. Your safari is coming to an end. The bumpy paths of the bush will turn into tarred roads and in the afternoon, you will arrive in Nairobi.

We will drive you to your hotel or the airport where your classic Kenya safari comes to an end. You can say your goodbyes to your guide and head home or continue your travels, taking with you many magical memories of Kenya’s favourite wildlife destinations.
