Day 1 Nairobi – Sheldrick Wildlife Trust – Nairobi National Park – Nairobi

Your Nairobi National Park day trip awaits. Your safari guide will meet you in the morning at your hotel in Nairobi to start your adventure. Today, you can spot the Big 5: elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, and rhino without leaving Kenya’s capital.

Your first stop is the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, near the entrance of the Nairobi National Park. You will arrive in time to watch as the charming and not-so-little elephant orphans are fed their very own special milk formula.

After observing the elephants and learning about the Trust’s conservation and wildlife protection efforts, you move to Nairobi National Park. The park is the oldest national park in Kenya and Nairobi’s greatest treasure—perfect for a day trip!

You will be amazed by the variety of wildlife that calls the park home and experience a unique safari with Nairobi’s skyline as your backdrop. The park is much larger than you might expect, roughly the same size as the city of Liverpool.

Absorb the serenity around you and let your eyes wander across the open savannah. Your guide knows the park and its inhabitants inside out, and his experience will help you find animals that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.

As you have already seen the elephant, you can spot the remaining members of the Big Five on this Nairobi National Park day trip: lion, buffalo, leopard, and rhino. You can also see giraffes, hyenas, zebras, and since the park is an important rhino sanctuary, your chances of spotting rhinos in their natural habitat are very high on this one day safari.

You will enjoy lunch at one of the shaded picnic sites, where you can stretch your legs a little by walking along the Hippo Pools nature trail and seeing some of the park’s birdlife and smaller creatures up close.

As the shadows grow longer and the sun sets, you exit the park, and your guide will return you to your hotel in Nairobi with a new appreciation for Kenya’s capital city. Your Nairobi National Park day trip has come to an end.
